Men’s Health Magazine Gives Las Vegas City An ‘F’ Grade

LAS VEGAS ( found at fox5vegas.com February 4, 2011 – Las Vegas managed to avoid a top 10 ranking but was still given an “F” grade on this year’s Men’s Health list of America’s Drunkest Cities.

The rankings were set to be released in the magazine’s March 2011 issue.

Las Vegas was ranked No. 11 and given a failing grade, as were all cities in the top 10. Fresno, Calif., was ranked the drunkest city in the country, followed by Reno, Nev., at No. 2.

Billings, Mont., Riverside, Calif., and Austin, Tex. rounded out the top five.

Men’s Health gave an “A” grade to Boston and rated it the least drunk city in America, followed by the New York cities of Yonkers and Rochester.

The magazine compiled its rankings based on the number of drunken driving arrests, accidents and deaths, along with rates of binge-drinking.

The March issue of Men’s Health magazine has an exclusive article about the legendary animated character.

Peter Griffin has divulged, exclusively to Men’s Health magazine, how “you can be a picture of success, even while things are far from black and white”.

David Morton was lucky enough to interview the podgy chap, who, according to Men’s Health magazine, is “crisis-proof, recession-proof [and] damage-proof”.

Family Guy has been airing since 1999. It is set in a wacky town in the US and follows the lives of a somewhat dysfunctional family, which has Griffin at the head of it.

Seth MacFarlane, the creator of the show, voices Griffin. While Hollywood actor Seth Green, famed for Austin Powers flicks, and Black Swan actress Mila Kunis star as Chris and Meg, the children on the show.

Tampa is a better place to live than St. Petersburg Woman’s Health magazine says

– whether you’re a man or a woman – though neither is considered an ideal city to call home.

So sayeth Men’s Health and Women’s Health magazines, which each evaluated 100 cities on health, fitness and quality of life issues. The magazines used a wide array of factors such as cancer rates, life expectancy and eating and exercise habits.

Tampa was ranked 77th for men, while St. Petersburg was ranked 95th >> relationship advice : For women, Tampa was ranked 79th, while St. Petersburg was ranked 93rd.

For their editions, the magazines do not list all 100 cities – just the 10 best cities, and the 10 worst. So, in a dubious distinction, the city of St. Petersburg got its name printed in both magazines, while Tampa did not.

The Tampa Tribune found out Tampa’s ranking after asking the magazine for a complete list of all 100 cities.

Plano, Texas, won the top spot for women, in part because of the ratio of men to women – 139 to 100. Santa Ana, Calif., came in third in part because of the extent to which women exercise there. And San Francisco garnered 10th place in part because of its low breast cancer rate.

For men, Madison, Wis., is the best place to live because it scored so well in a wide range of categories, the Men’s Health magazine article says. Plano is third, because the men apparently have to work out a lot to compete for those women. And Virginia Beach, Va., which ranked ninth, has a lot of healthy farmer’s markets.

To get into the bottom 10, as St. Petersburg has, a municipality has to fare poorly across the board in the three major categories, said Matt Marion, deputy editor at Men’s Health, who oversaw the research project for both magazines.

The city has to fare poorly in the health category, which includes data on cancer; in the fitness category, which takes into consideration gym attendance; and in the quality of life category, which weighs data on crime and pollution, Marion said.

“It really isn’t one score that is going to pull you down that far,” he said.

One of the factors contributing to the low health score for women in St. Petersburg is the city’s high suicide rate, Marion said. Men, too, had low health scores, with a high cancer rate, plus some low quality-of-life scores attributable, in part, to crime.

And job growth for women and men alike was less than ideal.

I just received this watch and have only worked out with it once, but so far, it is great. I did a bit of research on this watch, and the biggest complaint seemed to be the screen. A lot of people were complaining that theirs was too dim and they couldn’t see it inside. I had absolutely no issues with it; perhaps it could have been a little brighter, but at no point during my jog did it require more than a quick glance.

The reason I got this watch was the strength training aspect. The idea of having something monitor your rest period really intrigued me. I have to say, it seemed to work as well as one could hope. You can create workout programs through Polar’s website, although the site is still clearly geared toward runners. They have a very limited number of pre-set lifting exercises; however, it is extremely easy to create your own on the site.

The watch works extremely well while using it for cardio. It works with the cardio equipment at my gym. It also breaks your rate into three different zones and makes it very easy to see which zone you are in.

Synching the watch with the computer is very easy. It comes with a USB device that allows you to synch easily.

The watch fits really well, although I have a slight issue getting the watch off due to the clasp. It’s not a big deal, but I do feel that could have been designed better. The watch looks good enough to wear in casual situations.

I’ll try to update this review as I use it more; I just wanted to get a review up here. I was trying to gather as much information on this watch as I could, and I was struggling to find any reviews on the web. So far, I’d recommend getting this watch if you want to use it for cross training. You may want to see it in person if you are concerned about the screen’s brightness. (this was a review of the Polar FT80 Heart Rate Monitor ~ Polar.)
